Gas pipeline Gryazovets – Vyborg

Employer: LLC “Gazprom invest Zapad”
Gas pipeline length: 917 km
Pipe diameter: 1400 mm
Pressure: 9.8 MPa
Design capacity: 55 billion m³ per year

The Gryazovets — Vyborg trunk gas pipeline is being constructed by the SGM Group of Companies by order of LLC «Gazprom invest Zapad». The gas pipeline is designated for supply of gas to the Nord Stream gas pipeline and to the consumers of the Northwestern Region of Russia.

In 2010, LLC «STROYGAZMONTAZH» completed construction of 300 km of linear part of the first string of Gryazovets — Vyborg gas pipeline and in January 2011 proceeded with the construction of yet another 8 sections of its second string with a total length of 700 km.
The longest part of the gas pipeline route, which crosses the territory of the Leningrad and Vologda regions, runs through swamps. At the most troublesome terrains with blue clay, the Company’s specialists used new Russian technology for stabilization of soil.
The construction was to be executed in rocks as well, and that is why explosive works were applied. Constructors had to solve a lot of complex technical tasks, in particular, the crossings under the Neva and the Saimaa channel were performed in complicated geological conditions with the application of the micro tunneling method.
The project envisages construction of seven compressor stations on the Gryazovets — Vyborg gas pipeline. LLC «STROYGAZMONTAZH» is the general contractor for the construction of six of them: Gryazovetskaya, Volkhovskaya, Sheksninskaya, Babaevskaya, Pikalevskaya, and Elizavetinskaya.
Commercial supply of gas to consumers through the first string has already begun; upon launching of the string, the Unified Gas Supply System and the European gas transportation system were directly connected for the first time. It was decided to complete the second string ahead of schedule — as yearly as in the Fall of this year.
It is planned that the Gryazovets — Vyborg gas pipeline will reach its design capacity by the end of 2012.
