Gas pipeline Bovanenkovo – Ukhta

Employer: CJSC “Yamalgazinvest"
Gas pipeline length: 1100 km
Pipe diameter: 1420 mm
Pressure: 11.8 MPa
Design capacity: 140 billion m³ per year

Bovanenkovo — Ukhta trunk gas pipeline, the next generation of a gas transportation system (GTS), is being constructed to transport natural gas from Bovanenkovo field to the central regions of Russia and then to European customers. Implementation of this project is one of the priorities of commercial development of Yamal, whose GTS has to become, over time, the key element of the Unified Gas Supply System, providing transportation of gas in the amount of more than 300 bln. cubic meters per year from the peninsula fields.
Bovanenkovo — Ukhta trunk gas pipeline is noted for a unique combination of operational parameters: it was designed for operating pressure of 11.8 MPa from high-strength pipes of the next generation with a diameter of 1 420 mm and wall thickness of up to 33.4 mm. These innovative technological solutions allowed increasing the pipeline capacity more than twofold.
LLC «STROYGAZMONTAZH» is responsible for the construction in Yamal of seven sections of the 2nd string of the Bovanenkovo with the total length of approximately 200 km.
During the construction of this route, which crosses the peninsula and runs to the Baydaratskaya bay, a crossing was made underneath the Mordy-Yaha River. The main and the reserve strings of the gas pipeline, with the length of 400 m each, were laid by the pull-in method.
Construction is carried out in the severe climatic conditions of the Far North with almost complete lack of infrastructure and a significant distance from procurement bases. Sections of the trunk gas pipeline constructed by LLC «STROYGAZMONTAZH» cross the territory of continuous distribution of permafrost grounds.
Completion of works for construction of the 2nd string of GTS Bovanenkovo — Ukhta is scheduled for 2015.
